Washington Redskins

Remember last year when Washington made a huge splash before the Super Bowl and agreed in principle to a trade with Denver’s rival the Kansas City Chiefs for Alex Smith? It looked good at the start. But now, unfortunately, Alex Smith may never play football again.

Late in the season, Smith suffered a gruesome leg injury. The following complications from surgery make it a real possibility that Alex Smith may never play football ever again.

While that is still up in the air, the Washington Redskins do not want to take that risk and wait. The goal is likely to find a suitable veteran quarterback in free agency and then, if one falls to them, draft a rookie in the first round of the draft. Washington currently holds the 15th pick in the NFL Draft. They will be extremely fortunate if there is a quarterback that will fall to them.

Denver can at least help the veteran situation by trading Case Keenum. Having a trusted veteran can help things out. And if Washington is unable to get a high profile signal caller in 2019, then perhaps they can in 2020.
