Third round: Germaine Pratt, LB, North Carolina State

The Broncos are rumored to be in the market for some help at the linebacker position this offseason.

The team has to decide whether or not to pick up a $7 million option on linebacker Brandon Marshall, who has been with the team since 2013.

If the Broncos move on from Brandon Marshall, they could be in the market for a linebacker in free agency or in the top three rounds of the NFL Draft.

I’m not sold on the idea that both Todd Davis and Josey Jewell are bad fits for Vic Fangio’s scheme. He did well with similarly athletic players in Navorro Bowman and an even smaller, less athletic player in Chris Borland while he was with the 49ers.

With that said, Germaine Pratt has the type of all-around ability the Broncos might be looking for from a linebacker, a player who can excel on all three downs either in coverage or blitzing the quarterback.

Pratt will know Bradley Chubb well having spent the past four years playing for the North Carolina State Wolfpack, and the Broncos’ model last year involved seeking out players with captainship at their college program.

Pratt fits that bill.

He’s a playmaker with great size and length. He would be a great fit in Denver.
