Denver Broncos: Projecting market value of in-house free agents
Domata Peko, Nose tackle
Age: 34
Even heading into his mid-30s, Domata Peko is playing the run at the highest level of his NFL career, at least in my opinion.
Down the stretch this past season for the Broncos, he was outstanding and really has become one of the most important leaders on this team.
Peko, along with fellow free agent Zach Kerr, was in attendance for Vic Fangio’s introductory press conference. That could mean nothing, but Peko has found a home in Denver and playing for Bill Kollar.
Fangio and new defensive coordinator Ed Donatell need to evaluate if Peko can be a fit for their defense, which relied on their interior linemen (Akiem Hicks, Eddie Goldman) to play at least 50 percent of the team’s snaps last season.
Peko didn’t play 50 percent of the defensive snaps last year, but he did play over 500 and was both efficient and effective in those snaps.
As a free agent, Peko is at the point in his career where he can take it year-to-year, or if the Broncos believe he is a fit for Fangio’s defense, in two-year pacts.
Projected value: Up to $3 million, 1-year deal
