Shane Ray, EDGE

Age: 25 (26 in May)

Shane Ray was on a very positive trajectory with the Broncos, playing a major role on the team’s 2015 defense in the regular season and playoffs as a rookie, helping them to a Super Bowl title.

He recorded eight sacks the following season playing in tandem with but as the clear heir apparent to DeMarcus Ware.

Ahead of the 2017 season, Ray was expected to take the next step and be the Broncos’ star edge rusher opposite Von Miller, but he suffered a very complicated wrist injury that has now lingered for two years.

He tried to play with the injury for half of a season in 2017, then played with a temporary solution in place on the wrist all of 2018.

He has a total of two sacks over the past two seasons and will almost undoubtedly be looking for a fresh start in a new city.

Ray is young and needs to prove himself in a situation where he’s guaranteed snaps. I think Ray needs to take a one-year deal somewhere and try for a big contract again in 2020.

Projected value: Up to $3.5 million, 1-year deal
