New England Patriots vs Los Angeles Rams : Super Bowl LIII

The Patriots, to everyone’s dismay, are back in the Super Bowl. Their play in the post season has been outstanding, and contradictory to their regular season play. The experience on the team’s roster and coaching staff far exceeds any other team in the league.

The Patriots beat the Chiefs in the AFC Championship game in OT. Luckily they won the coin toss and exploited the 31st ranked KC defense and scored on their opening possession. Had the toss gone the other way, we could have a very different match-up.

The Rams have proven may people right this season as their post season dominance echoed their regular season campaign in overall superiority on the field. In my opinion, the NFC was a much harder path to the Super Bowl this year, and I think that will pay off for the Rams on Sunday. The Rams are a much more rounded team than New England, and as long as their offense’s lack of experience in the Super Bowl doesn’t hinder them, I think Brady and the Pats are in for a ride.

I expect the Rams to come out hot and force Brady into his usual heroics. McVay knows he is coaching across from the greatest coach of a generation, and will need to coach a near perfect game to win. Fortunately, he has an all-star cast supporting his Championship bid.

If the Rams can get in Brady’s face and force a few mistakes, I believe they will come out on top. I’m feeling a Todd Gurely MVP as well.

Ah, the Super Bowl. The greatest sports event of all-time. It’s the New England Patriots vs the Greatest Show on Turf II.

Well, maybe not. The Patriots still have Tom Brady—the same Tom Brady they had back during their three Super Bowls in four seasons in the early 2000s.

The Rams? Well, the Rams are completely different. They’re led by running back Todd Gurley, Quarterback Jared Goff and their strong defensive line.

The defensive line of the Rams is the key for the Rams defeating New England. Brady has struggled in the past when he is pressured a lot. I honestly don’t see the Rams winning unless they are able to sack Tom Brady.

Brady has had his fair share of Super Bowl victories, and experience in general. This will be his ninth appearance in the big game.

Jared Goff is very inexperienced, and this is his first Super Bowl. The Patriots defense isn’t as bad as it was last season and I think it will be able to have its way with Goff.

The dynasty vs the new kids on the block. Old school vs new school. Like any Super Bowl involving the Patriots, this will be a close one. This game has the potential to have a lot of high flying offensive plays and very little defense. The Rams defense, however, will emphasize pressure on Tom Brady.

According to Pro Football Focus, in Brady’s three Super Bowl losses, the Giants and Eagles pressured Brady an average of 40% of the game. With Suh and Donald, the Rams will be able to match that (LA’s season average was 38% of the time). To counter the pressure, New England will do what has worked for them this entire postseason; running the ball. Look for Sony Michel to have a 100+ yard day on the ground (he would become only the 7th rusher in the Super Bowl era to have three straight 100+ yard postseason games).

The running, along with a big game from Julian Edelman, will give the Patriots an early lead. The Rams will respond with an effective run game of their own. Both Todd Gurley and CJ Anderson will break off 20+ yard runs on the first drive, and Jared Goff will complete LA’s first touchdown to Robert Woods for an easy score (look for Woods to have a big game).

A couple more field goals will end the first quarter with a 10-10 tie. The game’s first turnover will happen in the 2nd quarter. Tom Brady will fire a pass down the middle of the field and be picked off by Aqib Talib. A quick Rams touchdown will make it 17-10, and the Patriots will continue to struggle in the 2nd quarter.

Next. Pat Bowlen and Champ Bailey to be enshrined in Pro Football Hall of Fame. dark

And other Rams field goal will make it 20-10 at halftime. The Rams will receive the second half kickoff and quickly go three & out. On the Patriots first drive, Sony Michel will score a rushing touchdown to cut the lead down to three. At this point, we will not see another punt in the game.

The second half will be a shootout. Jared Goff will throw three touchdowns. Julian Edelman will have two receiving touchdowns. By the time the two minute warning hits, the Rams will be up 41-38. Tom Brady will have the ball. Gronk will be the catalyst on this drive with two fourth down conversions. Just as the Patriots cross midfield and gain momentum, Aaron Donald will strip-sack Brady to clinch the win. Jared Goff will win the MVP.
