Third round: Khalen Saunders, DL, Western Illinois

One player who had a big Senior Bowl week in more ways than one is Western Illinois defenisve tackle Khalen Saunders.

Not only was Saunders participating in the biggest interview of his professional life, but he also celebrated the birth of his first child back in the Chicago area.

He flew home after Thursday’s practice to be with his brand new baby girl, then flew back for the game on Saturday.

This guy is a fun character in so many ways, and is making headlines for more than just his on-field play, but make no mistake about it: He can wreck the inside on the defensive line.

The Broncos have some big free agent decisions to make coming up on the defensive line and while they could bring some of their impending unrestricted free agents back (Domata Peko, Zach Kerr) they could also look to this year’s deep class to bring some depth on the defensive front.

Saunders has a really intriguing physical makeup at about 6-foot-1, 320 pounds with quickness, speed-to-power ability, and strong hands. This guy finishes plays and could be a great tackle to pair with Shelby Harris going forward.
