3. Right Tackle

The Broncos’ right tackle position went from bad to miserable in 2017 when they replaced Donald Stephenson with Menelik Watson. Those are two of John Elway’s worst free agent investments as an executive.

In 2018, he traded a sixth-round draft pick for Jared Veldheer who actually ended up playing pretty well. The team also paid a modest $2 million for Billy Turner who was good at both right tackle and offensive guard this past season.

With both Turner and Veldheer set for unrestricted free agency, that position is again under the microscope for the Broncos.

The good news is, this year’s free agent tackle class is pretty good and the Broncos actually have a couple of guys who would be strong options to bring back.

Nevertheless, this is a huge area of need as keeping the quarterback upright — be it Case Keenum or someone else — is of the utmost importance.
