Denver Broncos: Free agents with coaching connections
Jesse James, TE, Steelers
The addition of Jesse James at the tight end position would not be the sexiest, but it would keep the theme of Big Ten tight ends rolling in Denver.
James was the Pittsburgh Steelers’ most utilized tight end in the running game this past year, and is obviously going to have a lot of familiarity with Mike Munchak’s blocking concepts.
He also provides the occasional threat as a receiver, though he’s not the most fleet of foot. Despite his lanky frame, James has elite leaping ability (37.5-inch vertical jump) and phenomenal upper body strength.
He set a career high with 14.1 yards per reception this past season and has at least 30 receptions in each of the last three years.
Combined with the likes of Jake Butt and Troy Fumagalli (assuming James’ addition would mean no return for Jeff Heuerman), James could be a solid addition for the Broncos.
