Bryce Callahan, NCB, Bears

Though there are plenty of fun free agents I would put at or near the top of the Broncos’ priority list this offseason, perhaps no player makes more sense to me than Chicago Bears cornerback Bryce Callahan.

If the Broncos want to move on from Bradley Roby and put Isaac Yiadom in his place on the outside opposite Chris Harris Jr., Callahan would complete a very interesting trio.

Harris spoke last year about a desire to play the outside cornerback position more often.

He played outside on 34.7 percent of his snaps in 2018 compared to 33.2 percent the year before and 43.7 percent in 2016.

Harris would certainly be an effective outside cornerback if given the chance to play the majority of his snaps there, but the fact is he’s been playing primarily nickel cornerback for the majority of his career in Denver and he’s really good at it.

How can the Broncos afford to play Harris on the outside more often? Go and get one of the best nickel corners in the game.

Callahan has been a slot corner for the Bears the past few seasons and only three players had more slot snaps than him this past season.

Like Harris, Callahan is sticky in slot coverage and has the ability to make plays on the ball even with his back often turned to the quarterback. Adding him to the Broncos’ secondary would give Harris the opportunity to play outside — which he prefers — and keep the level of play in the slot high.
