Latest on Gary Kubiak

I am old enough to remember reading a report that said Gary Kubiak was ‘expected’ to be the Broncos’ offensive coordinator.

Since that no longer appears to be the case according to Mike Klis, what are the Broncos’ plans for Kubiak?

First and foremost, the fact that Kubiak is not required to be the offensive coordinator in the Broncos’ new coaching alignment really paves the way for a candidate like Zac Taylor.

The idea of Taylor coming in as head coach and Kubiak staying on as offensive coordinator didn’t make a whole lot of sense to me, but Taylor coming in as head coach/offensive coordinator and Kubiak serving in an offensive assistant/quarterbacks role does make a lot of sense.

Doesn’t that seem like it would really give Elway the best of both worlds?

He craves the new-age offense, which Taylor would presumably bring. He craves experience, which Kubiak obviously brings.

Maybe Elway’s thought will be a pairing of Kubiak and Taylor offensively and a veteran defensive coordinator would be exactly what the doctor ordered for Denver.

Regardless, a couple of days ago it seemed like Kubiak was a shoe-in for the offensive coordinator position, and as fluid as these situations can be, it seems to have taken a drastic turn where that is almost unlikely or not happening at all.

Funny how these things work.

Kubiak will be involved some way, somehow, but his exact role is unknown.
