Darian Stewart

Darian Stewart is the veteran of the Denver Broncos safeties.

He recorded 60 tackles and had two interceptions in 2018. Stewart turns 31 in August. The Broncos have many other safeties on the roster who are young.

The Denver defense struggled at times this season, not only against the run, but sometimes through the air. Stewart will only get slower as he ages, but I think, for now, he deserves a spot on the 2019 roster.

The Broncos may argue with Stewart that his cap hit is too high ($6.4 million), which is fair considering the youth at the position.

They could definitely do better at safety, no doubt. But Stewart should remain in the defensive backfield. I just don’t think it’s a good idea to break up yet another veteran from the ‘No Fly Zone’.

Freeing up some cap space is likely going to be a goal for the Broncos in 2019 and Stewart may be a likely candidate to have a reduced salary.
