Baylor Bradac and Matt Geving join me to predict each AFC West matchup, including the Denver Broncos hosting the Los Angeles Chargers.
It is the final week of the regular season. Two teams in the AFC West (Los Angeles Chargers and Kansas City Chiefs) are playoff-bound, while the other two (Denver Broncos and Oakland Raiders) are not.
While the Broncos will not have a spot in the postseason, the show must go on.
Denver was embarrassed by the Raiders under the lights off Monday Night Football in week sixteen. On a punt by Denver early in the first quarter, punter Colby Wadman kicked the ball down to the Raiders one yard line.
A Broncos player tried to down the ball, but the Raiders return man picked the ball up and ran it back for a touchdown. It was the start to another bad day for Denver.
Running back Phillip Lindsay went out of the game due to a wrist injury that turned out to be very serious. Without him, Denver was able to muster just 54 yards on the ground, including a 7-yard loss by wide receiver Tim Patrick.
The Chargers were outplayed by the Baltimore Ravens and lost 22-10. Lamar Jackson had an okay game, connecting on twelve of his 22 pass attempts. He threw one touchdown.
Phillip Rivers had an off day for the Chargers. He did not look comfortable against the Ravens defense. He completed 23 of his 37 pass attempts for 181 yards, zero touchdowns and two interceptions.
The Kansas City Chiefs fell to the Seattle Seahawks 38-31. Patrick Mahomes threw for 273 yards, while Russell Wilson threw for 271. Both had three touchdowns through the air.
Both teams had a 100-yard rusher in the game. For the Chiefs, Damian Williams rushed for 103 yards. For Seattle, Chris Carson totalled 116 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
Denver and Oakland have locked up the third and fourth positions in the AFC West standings. The division standings look like this:
