Denver Broncos linebacker Bradley Chubb’s odds of winning Defensive Rookie of the Year aren’t great.
Bradley Chubb has been a great addition to the Denver Broncos linebacking corps. He has been alongside one of, if not the best, linebackers in the game in Von Miller. He is being coached by one of the great linebackers in recent history in DeMarcus Ware.
Chubb even eclipsed 10 sacks in his rookie season (he has 12 with one game remaining). But Bovada figures the odds are against Chubb when it comes down to who wins Defensive Rookie of the Year honors.
Of the top four candidates for winning the award, Chubb is the fourth. His odds are stacked at +1600.
The others, in worst-to-first order, are:
Leighton Vander Esch, Linebacker, Cowboys (+500)
Derwin James, Safety, Los Angeles Chargers (+170)
Darius Leonard, Linebacker, Indianapolis Colts (-155).
Chubb has recorded 12 sacks this season, which ranks first among rookies. He has recorded 56 tackles and one pass deflection.
Chubb recorded at least half a sack in each game from weeks 6-through-11, his longest streak of the season.
Probably the biggest thing against Chubb’s odds of winning Defensive Rookie of the Year is the fact that he is on a losing team. At 6-9, the best the Broncos can finish is 7-9.
The worst the other players’ team can finish are:
Cowboys (9-7)
Chargers (11-5)
Colts (9-7).
It has been a lot of fun watching Chubb improve throughout his rookie season. As the fifth-overall pick in the 2018 draft, he has absolutely met expectations.
Leading all rookies in sacks is a great achievement. If the Broncos had a much better record, I am sure Chubb’s odds of winning Defensive Rookie of the Year would be much higher.
Regardless of whether or not he wins the award, Broncos Country should be very proud of how Chubb has performed and helped the Broncos as a rookie.
