All 32 teams passed on Phillip Lindsay in the 2018 NFL Draft and now the rise to stardom is evident in his first year.
Not much needs to be said about the rise of the Phillip Lindsay in 2018. Lindsay is here to stay, beautiful afro and all.
The Denver Broncos drafted Royce Freeman and David Williams ahead of him. Despite having numerous other suitors the former Colorado Buffaloes running back chose his hometown team. This alone sent chills to the Broncos Country fanbase. What happened after is another thing entirely.
Lindsay headed into training camp low on the depth chart. By the second preseason game, he was scampering past the others proving the Broncos were his right choice. The second thing that gave the fanbase mixed emotions was his changing of numbers.
In training camp, Lindsay wore number two, but due to a Hall of Famer’s permission, Lindsay wore number 30. At the end of the day, numbers don’t matter. However, performance matched with that number is something movie directors love.
Not being drafted or invited to the scouting combine fueled the fire of a player ready to prove everyone wrong. It started in training camp and advanced into the regular season. Even before the regular season began, Lindsay’s infectious attitude carried over to the locker room. His fiery mentality every time mentality oozes confidence in games and players.
It is something Chris Harris Jr. also plays with.
Also, this type of attitude is one that can break down rookie walls. Nothing fazes Lindsay and his personality. It is one of the biggest reasons the coaches and front office were impressed with how he responded. They threw every package possible at Lindsay and he gave them 110 percent. When players give 110 percent effort, it also translates to the football field.
We mentioned the rookie wall. Teams are keying on Lindsay because he is their best player on offense. It is working, but let the last sentence sink in for a second. Read it again. Lindsay is the best player on offense for the Denver Broncos.
He makes the pistons fire. It is up to offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave to dial up more plays for Lindsay in the passing game.
Lindsay became the first undrafted player on offense to head to the Pro Bowl. Whether Phillip Lindsay gets the Offensive Rookie of the Year remains to be seen, but Lindsay’s put the entire league on notice. He’s here to stay. The rise is real.
