Final thoughts

In the always-evolving NFL, the Broncos are two steps behind.

They do not have a quarterback capable of elevating the team or even playing well enough consistently to take advantage of a great defense.

Though the team is markedly improved from what it was last season when they looked completely helpless and hopeless during an eight-game losing streak, they have fallen short in even more frustrating ways this year.

Injuries are not an excuse, but a valid reason for some of the team’s shortcomings. But even when fully healthy, the same issues existed. The Broncos are late to the party and in fact, have yet to arrive.

The NFL is moving along without Denver right now. There has been a massive shift in power in both the AFC and NFC with teams who spent so many years in the dumpster now looking like perennial contenders with their young, star quarterbacks and innovative head coaches.

The Broncos don’t have either of those, and no one recognizes that more than John Elway.
