The Denver Broncos’ latest drama involving the head coaching position has given way to more future doubt. Here are the latest rumors and theories.

The Denver Broncos’ uncertain future had a major bombshell dropped on it when Woody Paige released an article discussing a ‘secret meeting’ between John Elway and Mike Shanahan last year.

Paige’s entire report is worth reading for the juicy details, but a number of other local reporters have essentially confirmed the biggest pieces of it. Essentially, Elway and Shanahan met to apparently discuss the possibility of a reunion with Shanahan taking over as the Broncos’ head coach, Gary Kubiak potentially becoming the new offensive coordinator, and Kirk Cousins coming in as the quarterback.

In hindsight, that plan sounds a lot better than what the Broncos have endured in 2018 with Vance Joseph, Bill Musgrave, and Case Keenum.

According to Paige’s report — which he says was confirmed by at least five different sources — the reason behind this not being the current brain trust in Denver is Broncos President and CEO Joe Ellis.

We did a full write-up and reaction on this news, which you can read here.

Broncos fans are chomping at the bit for a new head coach after the team’s historic loss to the Browns essentially eliminated them from playoff contention for the third straight year. Two of those non-playoff seasons have been under the direction of Joseph, the team’s most recent selection as head coach.

There were many who hated the decision to hire Joseph in the first place, and there were others who decided to make the best of it. The obvious choice back in 2017 would have been to hire Mike Shanahan’s son Kyle, who has done a great job with a less talented roster in San Francisco.

As of right now, there are a lot of moving parts and it seems only a matter of time before we will again be speculating on the future of the head coaching position in Denver. Here are some of the latest theories and rumors.
