The Denver Broncos are in talks with a former cornerback from Vance Joseph’s days as the Miami Dolphins’ defensive coordinator.
Chris Harris’ injury looms large on the secondary and the Denver Broncos as a whole. Interestingly, the Broncos head coach Vance Joseph mentioned they will not look at any cornerback depth.
However, according to reports, the franchise is headed toward signing Jamar Taylor if he passes his physical. Taylor was coached by Joseph as a member of the Dolphins.
Taylor is an athletic, rangy cornerback who still has upside in the league. Alterraun Verner was a veteran cornerback on the street. However, with the talent of Taylor available, the Broncos did not hesitate to make a move.
One other trait Taylor possesses is ball skills. These combinations bode well for a group that needs a youth movement. Taylor is 28-years old and a better player at this point than Adam Jones.
My guess is Taylor assumes a nickel cornerback role with the Denver Broncos. Justin Simmons played there, but the team’s long-term goal is to not place him there. Broncos view him as a safety and a “quarterback” on the back end.
As strictly a cornerback Taylor fits the bill as nickel player. One alternative is signing Taylor to a potential future’s deal.
This leaves the Broncos with question marks as to who then is the odd man out. My guess is Brendan Langley or Tramaine Brock is odd man out. Only way to release Brock is if the rib injury was worse than originally thought.
These two players seem like ideal candidates. Issac Yiadom is not going anywhere and Bradley Roby as well. This leaves a number three corner available for depth.
It appears like that addition is Jamar Taylor.
