Matt LaCosse

There were a number of candidates for the fifth star, but one player deserving some recognition is backup tight end Matt LaCosse.

Over the course of the season, LaCosse’s role has increased and the Broncos are giving him more chances to make an actual impact in the passing game. He’s only an effective decoy out there on the field if he starts making some plays, and against the Steelers, he did just that.

LaCosse caught three passes in this game for 34 yards, including the first touchdown of his NFL career.

Having been cut four times prior to coming to the Broncos, LaCosse has been no stranger to disappointment in the NFL but he has made plays when given the chance in preseason play and made one of the biggest plays in this game.

Case Keenum did a great job of finding the wide-open LaCosse, who caught the ball and quickly turned upfield to make sure he got to the end zone.

LaCosse also had another big pass play negated by his foot being about a centimeter out of bounds, which would have put him around 55 yards on four receptions.

He’s proven himself capable of making big plays as well as making tough catches in the middle of the field.
