In the latest edition of the Denver Broncos fanzone, I welcome Matt Geving and get his takes on the Denver Broncos as well as their matchup against Houston.
A must win game for the Denver Broncos comes upon us on Sunday afternoon. The Houston Texans come to town. Currently the leaders of the AFC South, a lot has gone right for the Texans in recent weeks.
As for the Denver Broncos? Not a lot has gone right in the last few weeks. The team is currently in third place in the AFC West with a 3-5 record. There is mumbling going around that a loss against the Texans could all but end the Broncos playoff hopes.
No doubt that if this season does not go well down the stretch, there could be a couple pink slips handed. To say that this is a must win is an understatement. Denver desperately needs this victory.
To have the chance to go into the bye week on a win could motivate the team to make a run. The last thing the Broncos need is to be deflated and sit on it for two weeks. Here is hoping the Broncos can secure a win.
On my latest edition of the Denver Broncos Fanzone, I chat with Matt Geving, who is one of the most passionate Broncos fans that I know. Here is what he had to say about the Broncos and this weekend’s game.
The Denver Broncos suffered a tough loss. In your opinion, what went wrong in Kansas City?
Too many penalties, bad play calling, and overall, no execution. They simply couldn’t keep up and have a lot of work to do.
How much faith do you have in this coaching staff that they will be able to turn things around?
As much as I would love to, I don’t much faith. This is not our standard. Denver hasn’t had back to back losing seasons in over 45 years. There’s talent on this football team, and I don’t think they are being put in the right position. The play calling has not been good and the coaching staff can’t seem to turn things around. I hope I’m proven wrong.
As a Denver Broncos fan, what is your favorite memory of all time?
As someone who has grown up around this team my whole life, there are so many. Obviously Super Bowl 50 comes to mind (I was too young to remember the first two Super Bowls). That being said, the greatest game I’ve ever witnessed in person was the 2016 AFC Championship. When Bradley Roby picked off Tom Brady on the 2 point conversion, the stadium literally exploded. I’m pretty sure I passed out for 4 seconds. My friend picked me up, yelled, “MATT! WE’RE GOING TO THE SUPER BOWL!” and we started hugging random strangers like they were our best friends. Unbelievable moment that I’ll always remember.
The Broncos welcome the Houston Texans before their bye week. What can Denver do to secure a win against a talented team?
Apply pressure on Deshaun Watson. Make him uncomfortable. Looking forward to seeing Von and Chubb have big games. On offense, I want to see Denver bet on their strength: running the ball. I would also love to see Keenum in play action, because that’s when he throws best. I’m expecting a big, bounce back win against a talented Houston team.
Is there a player at the halfway point of the season that you have been impressed with and why?
Phillip Lindsay. He came out of nowhere, and is lighting it up. He currently has more rushing yards than Saquon Barkley. It’s pretty incredible to see what Lindsay is doing as an undrafted player. I would argue that he’s our best weapon on offense. I would love to see him get more carries in the future.
With Demaryius Thomas being traded, what is your favorite moment of all time of him in a Broncos uniform?
So many great ones, but the greatest moment has gotta be the 80 yard OT touchdown against Pittsburgh. That game was his coming out party. I remember seeing DT catch it, and going absolutely crazy. He’s one of my favorite Broncos of all time, and although I was expecting him to get traded, I was still very sad to see him go.
Thank you Matt for taking the time out to chat with us. Here is hoping that the Broncos can get a win and right the ship.
