The offensive line, AKA ‘Big Play Killers’

As much as Case Keenum deserves credit for making really untimely bad decisions, the offensive line also deserves its due credit.

The Broncos finished this game with 10 penalties for 83 yards and, while I will need to go back to the tape to see if Billy Turner committed any infractions, I am 100 percent certain that every other Broncos lineman was called for a penalty at one point or another in this game.

Garett Bolles was called for holding (again), Max Garcia had a holding penalty that wiped out one of the best (and longest) Phillip Lindsay runs this season. Matt Paradis was called for holding on a pointless play. And finally, Connor McGovern was called for a pretty bogus block in the back, once again on a huge play by Phillip Lindsay.

Lindsay might have run for 300 in this game if the Broncos didn’t have any penalties on the offensive line.

This unit will play one really tight game and the next week they look like they don’t understand the rules of the game.

Part of the offensive line’s struggles in pass protection has to do with ill-advised play-calling from Bill Musgrave but these guys just have to be better. The Chiefs’ defense has proven itself inept at times this year and the Broncos ran all over them, only to succumb to their one strength, which is pinning their ears back and getting after the QB.

It will be interesting to see what the Broncos do with Jared Veldheer getting healthy, if he replaces Billy Turner who has played well or if the Broncos will maybe look to trade someone up there.
