With the release of Chad Kelly, the Denver Broncos could face a setback with quarterback development. I look ahead to the future at quarterback for Denver.

The future for the Denver Broncos at the quarterback position just got bleaker. What looked like a promising future for the former Ole Miss quarterback has turned into a dark cloud over his head.

John Elway and the Denver Broncos did not wait until the court hearing to pull the plug on Chad Kelly. They have offered to help him get through whatever demons he is battling. I hope that he gets the help that he can get.

From a football standpoint, this could set the Denver Broncos back a few years. I know the quarterback situation behind Case Keenum was not the prettiest, but it just got darker.

Chad becomes the second quarterback in just a little over two months that has been released by the Broncos. Paxton Lynch, the promising Memphis project, is still looking for work.

It now becomes even bigger for Case Keenum to step up and start putting up productive numbers. No more of these silly mistakes. He truly has a golden chance to be the quarterback of the future at this very moment.

But what would happen if the Broncos falter as the season goes on and we see them go under .500? It will be clear that Keenum is not the answer. And the free agency class of 2019 for quarterbacks is going to be very weak looking ahead.

Next. Impact of Chad Kelly's release from Denver. dark

John Elway just attended an Oregon football game to take a closer look at Justin Herbert. He could very well be the answer for the Broncos moving forward. But since he will be entering as a rookie, we could see some growing pains from him.

But as we have seen in the past, John Elway has not done well in finding the face of the franchise at quarterback in the draft. Every quarterback that he has drafted since taking over in 2011 is no longer on the team.

Chad Kelly’s release has really put a dark cloud over the Denver Broncos future at quarterback. Will they be able to escape purgatory at the position? I honestly do not know at this point. Here is to hoping something fortunate happens.

But I will leave you with this Broncos Country. We may struggle at the quarterback position for a little bit longer.
