The Denver Broncos seem to be positioning themselves for a potential top 10 draft pick in the 2019 NFL Draft unless they start winning some games.

The Denver Broncos are poised to pick in the top 10 of the NFL Draft for back-to-back years unless things improve rather quickly this season.

We’re already seeing 2019 NFL mock drafts all over the place and seeing the Broncos projected for the seventh overall pick right now has many hoping the team tanks for an even higher selection.

The Broncos didn’t have to tank last season, they were just flat out bad, but even having the fifth overall pick, many have complained the team didn’t lose enough in order to position themselves for a top quarterback.

Now fans are clamoring for the Broncos to continue losing this season so they can once again position themselves for a quarterback. What scenarios are the Broncos looking at for week seven of the season?

Let’s take a look.

If the Broncos beat the Cardinals

If the Broncos end up winning this matchup against the Cardinals, they will automatically revert back to the 12th overall spot in the 2019 NFL Draft order, just behind the Cleveland Browns who are currently 2-3-1.

There are 12 teams in all with two or three wins this season, and all have the chance to compete with the Broncos for draft position at this point.

The lowest the Broncos would possibly drop in the 2019 NFL Draft order after this entire week of football is in the 12-15 overall range.

Even if the Broncos do beat the Cardinals, other teams with a similar record or even one game better than the Broncos right now at 3-3 are going to win this weekend, so Denver won’t drop too far with a win.

If the Broncos lose to the Cardinals

If the Broncos end up losing to the Cardinals, they will be one of just eight teams in the NFL with five or more losses.

That means losing to the Cardinals will likely jump the Broncos up a few spots in the 2019 NFL Draft order.

The teams currently ahead of the Broncos (from first to sixth) are the Giants, Colts, 49ers, Cardinals, Raiders, and Falcons. The Raiders have a bye week, so they are likely to remain among the top five teams in the 2019 draft order.

The Colts play the Buffalo Bills, who are currently without quarterback Josh Allen and right behind the Broncos at eighth overall in the draft order. Assuming Indianapolis wins that game, they would at least match the Broncos with a 2-5 record.

The Giants and Falcons also have a head to head matchup in Atlanta, and that seems likely to fall Atlanta’s way, though, with the number of injuries the Falcons have suffered this year, nothing is off the table.

The 49ers host the Rams, so unless something crazy happens, they’re probably going to lose that game and drop to six losses on the season.

Based on those rough predictions, it would be shocking if a Broncos loss did not bump them up at least two spots in the 2019 NFL Draft order, but given some of the matchups, it seems like that’s about as high as they could get.

Because it’s so early in the season still, any number of scenarios are still on the table as far as where the Broncos would be picking. But, a win against the Cardinals seems likely to drop them down the first-round order quite a bit while losing to Arizona would bump them up a step or two.
