Broncos vs. Rams: Week six Madden simulation
By Tylor Walden
The Denver Broncos take on the Los Angeles Rams in what could be a game factored by weather. How does the game play out in Madden?
It looks to be a snowy game on Sunday as the Denver Broncos will face off against the Los Angeles Rams. However, for all that are attending the game, the latest weather report is showing that the snow will subdue around kickoff. Weather will not be as bad. However, fans will still deal with the cold weather as it might not get higher than 30 degrees for the game.
In these Madden play throughs, the first two games were close. Then the next three games allowed me to get used to it. How will this week of Madden play out? Let’s jump right into it.
The first quarter was low key. Denver held the ball for a long drive to start the game. It was a surgical drive that ended in a Brandon McManus field goal. That would put Denver up 3-0. On the Rams first possession, they went three and out. A good showing by the Broncos defense. The first quarter would end with Denver up.
In the second quarter, Denver continued their drive. They would get to the Rams 31 yard line. Then, just before the two minute warning, Case Keenum found Emmanuel Sanders in one-on-one coverage. He threw it in a spot where Sanders could catch it. And he would for the touchdown.
However, perhaps a foreshadowing event as Brandon McManus missed the extra point. That would bring the score to 9-0 Broncos. Knowing that the game could get out of hand, Jared Goff and the Rams went to work. Driving down the field for a touchdown. The extra point would make it 9-7.
After a three and out for Denver, the Rams struck on the first play. Goff hit Robert Woods, who got behind the defenders and scored on an 81 yard touchdown. That would make it 14-9 Rams.
But Denver would not be done yet. On the kickoff, Phillip Lindsay got some nice blocks and ran down all the way to the Rams’ 35 yard line. An excellent return allowed the Broncos to drive down and allow Phillip Lindsay to finish what he started.
But once again, Brandon McManus missed the extra point. Denver would take a 15-14 lead into the half. In the second half, the Rams went three and out on their first drive. Denver got the ball and drove down the field. However, in what would be the turning point of the game, Case Keenum found his man in the end zone. But the safety jumped the route and intercepted the pass.
There was no scoring in the third quarter. But the Rams outscored Denver 11-0 in the final quarter. Todd Gurley III would score the touchdown to give them the lead for good. A field goal towards the end of regulation would seal the deal.
For the first time in these simulations, the Denver Broncos would taste defeat.
Despite all this, and increasing the difficulty because of performance, I would say this was a solid game. Denver kept it close until the end. The defense, as was in the Kansas City game, just could not get anything done in the fourth quarter.
The two missed extra points also played a factor. Denver would have had a chance to at least bring it into overtime if they were successful on the final drive.
All in all, it was a good game. But the Broncos came up short of winning a big game. Tune in next week as the Broncos face off against the Arizona Cardinals.
