Denver Broncos: What we learned in the loss to New York
By Domenic Grey
Vance Joseph’s time in Denver is coming to an end
Sundays loss to the Jets almost closes the book on the Vance Joseph era in Denver.
The Broncos have been a completely different team since Joseph arrived two seasons ago. Coming off of a Super Bowl, everybody knew the team was going to decline without arguably one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play in Peyton Manning.
With a 5-11 record last year, Denver wasn’t going to pull the plug on Joseph because it wasn’t all his fault. The quarterback play plagued the whole team from OTAs until the last game of the season. So, Joseph was given a “pass”.
But now with a clear starter in Keenum under center, the Broncos are still just as bad, if not worse than they were last year. Sunday’s loss gives Jospeh a 1-9 record on the road in the past two seasons which won’t look good on any coaches resumé.
Jospeh’s coaching style is the opposite of what Denver needs right now. This team was formerly built on airing it out downfield while forcing teams into obvious passing situations where Von Miller and company could pin their ears back and hunt quarterbacks.
The team has been too conservative under their second-year coach which is why it’s not a matter of if he will be fired but when.
