Run Defense

The Jets ran for 323 yards in this game.

Does anything else need to be said?

Yes, as a matter of fact, it does.

Isaiah Crowell set an NFL record with an average of 14.6 yards per carry on a minimum of 15 carries. He barely reached that minimum threshold, but how does a running back in today’s NFL average almost 15 yards per carry?

Poor tackling and poor edge setting.

Even if the Broncos’ defensive line did its job in this game, the linebackers and secondary were not there to clean up and make sure tackles. The Broncos have done such a good job in the past of rallying to the football and reading plays, but it feels like the second and third level of defense from strictly a tackling perspective seem to be really average or sub-par.

The run defense has not been an area of weakness really since the beginning of the 2017 season, but for some reason in the Broncos’ fifth game of the year both this year and last year, the run defense broke. We’ll see if that continues into next week’s game against the Rams.
