Darian Stewart

What in the world has happened to Darian Stewart?

From the start of the 2015 season, it looked like the Broncos had struck gold with a valuable young free agent safety who was exactly what the team needed to compliment T.J. Ward and the rest of the No Fly Zone.

It turned out that Stewart was exactly what the Broncos needed, if only for a year or so.

In 2017 and 2018, Stewart has not been the same type of player and looks like he doesn’t want to come up and make plays against the run so far in 2018. There was no more glaring example of that than in this game against the New York Jets, who ran on the Broncos with ease all game.

Stewart has at least one missed tackle in four of the five Broncos games and has five of his six missed tackles in the past three weeks.

He had a missed tackle against the Jets and another tackle where he absorbed the running back in a really awkward way.

There’s just not much physicality to Stewart’s game right now, and he’s not manning the back end of the secondary like a safety needs to. What the Broncos really need is for Stewart to be on the sideline, Justin Simmons to take his place, and Su’a Cravens to come in and play the role Simmons is currently playing.
