Broncos vs. Jets: Five questions on the New York Jets
By Tylor Walden
The Denver Broncos take on the New York Jets on Sunday. We chat with Luis Tirado Jr. from The Jet Press and get his takes on the Broncos opponent.
A huge game for the Denver Broncos takes place on Sunday. Denver travels to East Rutherford, New Jersey to take on the New York Jets. This will be the second straight year that the Broncos and Jets have faced off. Denver was able to snap their eight-game losing streak by shutting out the Jets 23-0 in December of last season.
Both teams enter this game with brand new quarterbacks. The Broncos have switched out Trevor Siemian for Case Keenum. The Jets will have rookie quarterback Sam Darnold under center. It is a classic case of rookie vs. veteran. Which one will come out on top?
According to the latest odds, the Jets are slight favorites. This is quite odd to see, but perhaps home field is playing a part in why New York is the favorite. Either way, it should be a good game.
Another week leads us to another chat with the opponent. However, when it comes to Luis Tirado Jr., we have a lot of history. Certainly is a righteous dude and we enjoy chatting football.
I chat with Luis to see what the New York Jets are up to as we have completed the first quarter of the 2018 season.
The Jets are 1-3. What do you believe has been the reason behind some of the struggles of the Jets?
The biggest reason is pretty much on the Jets offense as it’s a hot mess right now. The offensive line is abysmal, the Jets lack offensive weapons, and the play calling has been horrendous. If new offensive coordinator Jeremy Bates can go back to what works which is mostly centered around the ground game, it would help the Jets create some kind of identity on offense. Sadly, they don’t have an identity and often times look frustrated and annoyed on the field due to some boring and predictable play calling.
What are your thoughts on Sam Darnold through the first four games?
Darnold has done well and continues to progress well. He’s learning and growing all at the same time which is nice to see and one of the only bright spots on what looks to be another lost season.
The Jets acquired De’Angelo Henderson during the offseason. What are your thoughts on the former Denver Bronco?
As of now, Henderson hasn’t done anything with the Jets as they probably brought him in as insurance in case something happens to Isaiah Crowell or Bilal Powell. Looks to be a developmental kind of player for now as he was likely acquired to see what he brings to the table with the injury to Elijah McGuire.
The Jets welcome the Denver Broncos for a Week 5 matchup. What do you believe will be key for the Jets to get a win?
The Jets need to establish the ground game and feed the rock to both Crowell and Powell. If they want to beat the Broncos, they need to contain Von Miller and let the Jets running backs do all the work to open things up for Darnold. Hopefully, Robby Anderson steps up and delivers as he’s been very quiet so far this season. It’s real easy: Get the ground game going, let Darnold execute his amazing play-action abilities, and get Anderson heavily involved on offense. The Jets defense needs to also set the tone and keep Keenum in check since he hasn’t done all too well this year.
Who is someone on the Jets roster that we may not know about that could be a factor in Sunday’s game?
Keep an eye on defensive end Henry Anderson as he leads the Jets in sacks and has been a nice surprise so far this season. He’s a very good pass rusher and gives 110 percent on every play, look for #96 all game long as he’ll likely be an impact player against the Broncos.
