2013: Chiefs @ Broncos (November 17, week 11)

The Kansas City Chiefs were coming off of a horrendous season in 2012 and Andy Reid came in, traded for Alex Smith from the San Francisco 49ers, and drafted Eric Fisher number one overall to protect him.

The Chiefs’ turnaround couldn’t have been more dramatic, which was necessary if they were going to compete with what would end up becoming the best offense in the history of the NFL.

These two teams met for the first time in November in Denver and the Chiefs were a stellar 9-0 at the time. The Broncos were 8-1, and really came out in this game and kicked the Chiefs’ butts. The final score ended up being 27-17, but Kansas City added a garbage touchdown in the fourth quarter after Denver put together a pretty dominant all-around performance, led by Manning (Montee Ball had two touchdowns in this game, as well).

The Broncos and Chiefs would play two weeks later in this season in Kansas City, where both teams were now 9-2.  It felt like the AFC West was really going to come down to this particular matchup, and the Chiefs got off to a hot start, taking a 21-7 lead on the Broncos before the Broncos’ offense kicked things into high gear.

Eric Decker had four touchdown catches and before anyone in Kansas City could blink, the Broncos were up 35-21 and wound up winning by a final score of 35-28, moving to 10-2 on the season and having two wins over their division rival Chiefs.
