Noah Fant, TE, Iowa

Last year, I was selfish and campaigned almost the entire season for the Denver Broncos to draft Iowa Hawkeyes inside linebacker Josey Jewell.

The Broncos and I are not always on the same wavelength when it comes to NFL Draft prospects, but they were able to take Josey Jewell with their top pick in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft.

I’m taking a similarly selfish approach with this selection here but like Jewell, Fant would be a good fit in Denver and add something to the team right away.

Just a junior, Fant has a very professional approach to his game and spent the offseason adding weight to his frame (listed at 241 pounds on Iowa official website) to be able to hold up in the running game.

Fant has been a touchdown machine for the Hawkeyes over the past two seasons, catching 11 in 2017 and already with another pair through the Hawkeyes’ first three games.

Fant is a mismatch not only in terms of his size but athletically as well at the tight end position, different from what the Broncos have in 2019 free agent Jeff Heuerman, Jake Butt, Matt LaCosse, or Troy Fumagalli.

While Butt is not the best blocker right now, he does a good enough job and the Broncos should be able to afford Heuerman at a reasonable rate if they want him back. Fant would add another mismatch in the passing game and perhaps add a presence the Broncos could eventually be missing if they choose to move on from Demaryius Thomas at the end of the season.

He’s another dynamic weapon, and you can see that very clearly in some of his highlights here.
