Favorite Memory and Baltimore Matchup

As a Denver Broncos fan, what is your favorite memory that you have of the team?

I remember the ’77 AFC Title game vs. the Raiders and that was special. The ’86 AFC Championship game, most specifically The Drive, was historic. But without a doubt, Super Bowl XXXII was my ultimate euphoric memory. After four Super Bowl humiliations, and the national media not giving us a snowball’s chance in a frying pan of beating the mighty Packers, nothing could supplant that as my #1 memory. Despite the amount of barley sodas I had in my system, I still remember it like it was yesterday.

The Denver Broncos take on the Baltimore Ravens in their first road contest of the season. What does Denver need to do to secure a win?

The Ravens are always a good, solid team in all three phases but at home, they are an even more imposing opponent. Since we are 1-5 lifetime in Baltimore since the arrival of the Ravens, nothing will come easy at M&T Bank Stadium. They have one of the best home field advantages in the league. I have been in that stadium several times. They are loud, and don’t kid yourself, this team absolutely feeds off the energy of the fans.

That said, without a doubt, we must play as close to a perfect game as possible. They play signature Ravens football; they control both lines of scrimmage, run the ball, and play great defense. Also, John Harbaugh is a Special Teams guru so they use that phase of the game more effectively than any other team in the league. So in the words of Brock Osweiler, “ball security is job security”…or in this case, victory security.

At the risk of sounding cliché, we must protect the football. Keenum has to throw the ball away or take the sack and live to play another down. Settling for field goals in this game is not taboo as the Ravens seem to always play close games when they play quality competition. Also, take advantage of the best punter in football, Marquette King (“The King is here!”). This is sure to be a field position game and King the Broncos the advantage.

The backs and receivers cannot be loose with the ball either. Tuck that thing away as if to say, “in order to get the ball, the arm is coming with it” (Sorry for the macabre image). On defense, we cannot allow Joe Flacco to be comfortable in the pocket. We saw what he did in the 2012 playoffs when he wasn’t touched at all. However, when you do make pressure him, there are turnover opportunities to be had. Hit him early & often and take the crowd out of the game.
