Day Three Picks

Josey Jewell, LB

Josey Jewell continues to lead the Denver Broncos in special teams snaps and saw a little more action defensively in this game against the Raiders than he did the previous week against the Seahawks.

Jewell made the most of his opportunities, racking up a pair of tackles and a nice play in the running game on 13 defensive snaps. He’s gaining more and more trust from the coaching staff.

Grade: B

DaeSean Hamilton, WR

Through two games, the highly touted fourth-round pick out of Penn State — known for his route running abilities and strong hands — has yet to be targeted in the passing game.

This has to change soon. The Broncos gave Hamilton 12 snaps offensively and 13 snaps on special teams in this game. There’s really nothing to grade here, as Hamilton made no overwhelmingly positive plays or negative plays.

Grade: Incomplete

Keishawn Bierria, LB/ST

Keishawn Bierria was not used as a linebacker in this game but played 16 special teams snaps. That special teams unit coached by Tom McMahon is looking night and day different from last season’s group.

This is not to say that Bierria has been the reason for the unit looking all that different, but he’s part of a collectively successful unit. He did not record any statistics in this game.

Grade: Incomplete

Overall Thoughts

Overall, this was a solid game by the Broncos’ rookie class, led obviously by the performance of undrafted rookie Phillip Lindsay. In such a star-studded rookie class, he has managed to really stand out.

The Broncos are continuing to get rookies more and more action, and it feels like a matter of time before both Courtland Sutton and Royce Freeman have breakout games, along with some more significant action for DaeSean Hamilton.
