Tight End: Jake Butt, Jeff Heuerman

Week one rankings: Butt – TE23; Heuerman – TE38

Week two advice: Start Butt, sit Heuerman

The Broncos gave Jeff Heuerman 60 offensive snaps compared to just 37 for Jake Butt on Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks, but Butt was the fourth-most targeted player in the passing game, as noted by Brandon Keckler in our latest episode of ‘The Juice’:

It may seem like a bit of a risk, but Jake Butt is a sneaky good fantasy play this week.

Now, if your options are Rob Gronkowski or Jake Butt, then the obvious decision is to play the proven Gronkowski. But if you don’t have a clear-cut TE1 on your roster and Jake Butt is on your team or available as a waiver pickup, he’s worth a shot this week.

The Raiders’ linebacker group might have to pay more attention to Phillip Lindsay and they aren’t going to be able to double-cover any of the Broncos’ receivers. With the extra emphasis on covering guys like Sanders and Thomas, however, Butt could get some really favorable man-coverage matchups and exploit them.

The Broncos have pitched him as a red zone threat, and this could be the week they look to get him involved heavily after four targets in week one.
