Decision 4: Cutting half the 2017 draft class

The Broncos made the unpopular and unfortunate decision on Saturday to cut half of their 2017 NFL Draft class.

Two of those players that were cut were third-round draft picks Carlos Henderson and Brendan Langley, but the Broncos also let go of fifth-rounder Isaiah McKenzie and sixth-rounder De’Angelo Henderson.

As of Saturday afternoon, that was a very disappointing development.

By Sunday afternoon, it wasn’t so bad after all.

The Broncos made the shocking decision to cut some prominent draft picks and then immediately brought three of them back onto the practice squad, including Carlos Henderson, who missed all of training camp.

Henderson posted on his Instagram page how grateful he was for another opportunity to get back to Denver.

Hopefully at some point this season, he’s able to crack the 53-man roster.

The Broncos were also hoping Brendan Langley could seize a third cornerback position this offseason, but it was clear after a few practices and preseason games that he needs a bit more time to develop. The fact that he can now do that on the practice squad is exciting.

Isaiah McKenzie was in a battle for the sixth wide receiver spot and one of the top 53 spots on the team but narrowly missed the cut, likely just after the team signed Pacman Jones to the roster.

McKenzie was re-signed to the active roster when it was determined safety Su’a Cravens would need another knee procedure.

So, seven of the Broncos’ eight 2017 draft picks remain on the roster in some capacity.
