Denver Broncos: Team to release QB Paxton Lynch
By Tylor Walden
With the addition of Kevin Hogan, the Paxton Lynch experiment in Denver has officially ended as the team informed Lynch he will be waived.
The former first round pick from Memphis was projected to be the franchise quarterback for the Denver Broncos after Peyton Manning’s retirement. The search, for the time being, will continue with Paxton Lynch no longer a Denver Bronco.
According to multiple sources, the Broncos have informed Paxton Lynch that he will be waived by the team. The hopeful experiment has come to an end in Denver. Lynch will now hit the waiver wire.
The move allows the Broncos to move on and gives Paxton Lynch a fresh start elsewhere. It should be a move that will benefit both parties. Denver will have to continue paying him though.
According to Mike Klis, he will be owed $1.3 million guaranteed. He will also be owed $600,000 in 2019. But the move the Broncos made confirmed that it was worth moving on from him.
It is a shame that the Broncos had to part ways with Paxton Lynch. But when you look at the grand scheme of things, he truly did not help his case.
In his first two years, he had a chance to win the starting job. Both years he lost the competition to Trevor Siemian. He saw some playing time during his time. Other than his relief appearance in Tampa Bay, he was subpar.
Injuries and inconsistencies were a huge problem. And just this preseason, he lost the backup job to Mr. Irrelevant Chad Kelly. It was written in stone that Elway was going to part ways with Lynch. The only question was when.
While he did not have a great career, hopefully Paxton Lynch can find success with another team or that he finds it wherever he ends up. But going into the 2018 season, the Broncos will be without him.
