Linebacker

I’m of the (perhaps wrong) opinion that the Broncos could get by for a bit with three off-ball linebackers on the active roster.

It doesn’t feel like they’re going to go that route.

In all likelihood, the Broncos will keep four off-ball inside linebackers, and two of those players are going to have to play a critical role on special teams.

Brandon Marshall and Todd Davis are locked into spots, as is Josey Jewell.

Beyond those three, it’s anyone’s guess, but the three likeliest candidates are veteran Zaire Anderson, Joseph Jones, and rookie Alexander Johnson.

As far as making splash plays both defensively and on special teams, Johnson stood out the most.

The Broncos also went out of their way to acquire him and outbid other teams for his services.

It’s doubtful they did that to try and stash him on the practice squad.

My best guess here is that the Broncos find a way to roster Marshall, Davis, Jewell, and Johnson, with another player or two at this position going to the practice squad.
