Denver Broncos roster moves: What’s up next?
Final Thoughts
Ultimately, keeping Paxton Lynch on the roster is going to have a ripple effect throughout.
Is that a luxury the Broncos want to or even can afford?
Prior to the preseason finale, Lynch had a completion percentage hovering just above 48 percent in preseason action. He was absolutely terrible, but Vance Joseph said the team thought he had done well the previous three weeks.
That included a week where he was ultimately benched for Chad Kelly, so who knows if he was actually telling the truth or if the Broncos are really just propping him up to some other team for a possible trade.
The reality is, keeping Lynch would be a selfish move for the Broncos and ironically would also not be what’s best for the team or for Lynch.
So, the Broncos’ initial final roster could look something like this:
QB: Keenum, Kelly (2/53)
RB: Booker, Freeman, Lindsay, Henderson, Janovich (7/53)
WR: Thomas, Sanders, Sutton, Hamilton, Patrick, McKenzie (13/53)
TE: Heuerman, Butt, LaCosse (16/53)
OL: Bolles, Leary, Paradis, McGovern, Veldheer, Turner, Garcia, Kouandjio (24/53)
ST: McManus, King, Kreiter (27/53)
DL: Wolfe, Peko, Gotsis, Walker, Kerr, Harris, McDonald (34/53)
OLB: Miller, Chubb, Ray, Barrett, Holland (39/53)
LB: Marshall, Davis, Jewell, Johnson (43/53)
CB: Harris, Roby, Brock, Jones, Yiadom (48/53)
S: Stewart, Simmons, Parks, Cravens, D.Thomas (53/53)
That would obviously leave someone like Brendan Langley off of the final roster, and the Broncos would be keeping six receivers and only eight offensive linemen.
Some of these numbers can be altered if you don’t keep McKenzie or if you trade an edge rusher, or even a defensive lineman for that matter. If the Broncos feel someone is that important to the 2018 roster, they will find a way to keep him.
This is my best projection after the first round of cuts.
