Denver Broncos: Five players who will not make final roster
By Tylor Walden
Isaiah McKenzie – Cut
For Isaiah McKenzie, the preseason started in a promising fashion. With the Denver Broncos trailing, he caught a punt from the Minnesota Vikings and sprinted towards the end zone for his first punt return touchdown. It was exciting and gave Broncos Country a little taste of hopefully what he was all about.
Unfortunately, he did not live up to that expectation. The following game against the Chicago Bears, he had a costly fumble as the Broncos were driving to win the game. It ended any chance for the Denver Broncos to make a comeback.
In the final two preseason games, McKenzie did not make much of a splash. He only recorded one catch in the final two preseason games.
Now, I believe that McKenzie will be expendable because of the presence of Adam “Pacman” Jones. He brings a veteran presence to the team and can return punts. Without the special team option for McKenzie, he does not have much going for him.
I believe that John Elway decides to part ways with Isaiah McKenzie. However, he does have a chance at making the practice squad because of the new eligibility rules that allow for those “special” spots because he has fewer than two acquired NFL seasons.
That is a possible path, if Elway decides to entertain it. I suppose we will find out.
