Will Dymonte Thomas continue vying for playing time as a Dime Linebacker?

Dymonte Thomas is taking advantage of all his opportunities this offseason. With the acquisition of Su’a Cravens, the safety room was getting a little full. Injuries, however, have decimated the back part of the secondary paving the way for Thomas to shine.

Shine he has.

A sleeper pick to make the roster, Thomas showed Denver Broncos fans everywhere why the team is so high on him during Friday night’s contest. Playing an unfamiliar role in dime linebacker, Thomas appeared to be a potential solution to Denver’s plaguing issue covering running backs and tight ends.

He blanketed former All-Pro tight end Vernon Davis all night.

His play was the biggest thing that stood out to me when reviewing the game tape this weekend, and I am ecstatic to watch him play Thursday night. If he can show that his performance Friday night was not a fluke, Denver may have a hidden gem on the team. Vance Joseph agreed and had this to say about Thomas:

"He did a nice job. You know, [Jeremiah] Poutasi was a game-time decision from his knee from last week’s game and he practiced two days at dime [defense] and he did a fine job, so that was nice to see [that] from him and for us obviously. That’s a big-time position for us. Vance Joseph (quotes via Broncos PR)"

As I said earlier, having too much talent is never a bad thing, and although there are very few roster spots open currently, Thomas is making it a very difficult decision for John Elway.

Third-year safety Will Parks is a hard worker but is below average at best against the pass and Cravens can’t shake the injury bug.

Game four is a chance for Thomas to continue showing the Denver Broncos he belongs on the 53-man roster.
