Denver Broncos: Players on the roster bubble after third preseason game
Devontae Booker, RB
In a close roster competition, you can’t give up an inch.
The Broncos made Devontae Booker their number one running back to open training camp based pretty much on seniority, and through three preseason games, it could be argued he’s been out-played by just about every other running back on the roster.
Booker had an injury in camp last year and was used a lot less in 2017 than he was in 2016, but was slightly more effective on a per-touch basis
He showed pretty well as a pass-catching back but now, the Broncos have a few guys that can do that in Phillip Lindsay and De’Angelo Henderson. Dave Williams has looked pretty good catching passes as well.
The Broncos have to be objective when evaluating Booker, but if they don’t feel his trade value is high and if they also feel confident about being able to potentially get Williams to the practice squad, it could save Booker’s roster spot.
He hasn’t done anything in games to this point to prove worthy of a spot in the rotation over Royce Freeman or Lindsay on gameday, and De’Angelo Henderson looked really good in the team’s third preseason game as well.
At this point, the former fourth-round pick out of Utah could be on the outside looking in.
