Detrez Newsome, RB, Los Angeles Chargers

The Los Angeles Chargers have been incredibly unlucky this season with some key injuries, but they appear to be getting a nice influx of young talent from their 2018 draft class and a couple of undrafted free agents.

Return specialist J.J. Jones was also considered for this spot as it appears he will also be locking down a spot in Los Angeles, but Detrez Newsome has been impressing in camp and in preseason action.

Newsome was an unheralded prospect out of Western Carolina, but an FCS All-American and a player who showed well when given the opportunity at the Appalachian State pro day.

Newsome impressed the Chargers’ scouting staff and is now on pace to make the Chargers’ final 53-man roster, standing out to former running backs coach and current Chargers head coach Anthony Lynn.

He ran for 78 yards in the Chargers’ latest preseason game and caught three passes for 22 yards.
