Chad Kelly, QB

More from Predominantly Orange

The play of Chad Kelly simply cannot be ignored at this point.

He’s the only Broncos quarterback to throw a touchdown pass in the preseason (granted, he’s also probably had the most reps) and he’s been more efficient and effective than even his most ardent supporters could have predicted.

Kelly has officially completed three touchdown passes with one interception, but could have very easily had another pair of touchdowns to John Diarse (preseason week one vs. MIN) and Tim Patrick (week two vs. CHI).

Kelly’s promotion last week brought along with it some adversity for Paxton Lynch, but it’s clear at this point which quarterback is responding to competition and which one is crumbling under pressure.

Kelly looks like he could go in and relieve Case Keenum in regular season play if need be, but he won’t get a chance to do a whole heck of a lot against the Redskins, at least not compared to the first two weeks, as starters will play around three quarters.

Next. Chad Kelly can be the full-time backup. dark

If Kelly plays well again in week three, however, he could inspire the confidence in Denver’s front office he needs to in order to be the backup for their week one matchup against Seattle.
