Run Defense
Run defense looked iffy last week against the Minnesota Vikings. The Broncos allowed 147 yards on the ground to five different players, including a 21-yard rush by Latavius Murray.
The Bears’ top two running backs are a good duo, and could pose problems for the Broncos defense.
One positive thing to note, however, is that the Broncos will have Von Miller on the field. The tea decided to hold him out last week against the Vikings due to the fact that he had a great training camp and they didn’t want him getting hurt in the first meaningless football game.
That was a smart move, but it’s time for him to play.
Miller has the ability to get past the opposing team’s offensive linemen with ease, therefore getting to the backfield fast. If he gets off to a fast start, he could easily eliminate the Bears’ run game, and maybe cause them to think twice about running the ball, even when Miller exits the game.
Denver has Derek Wolfe, Zach Kerr, Adam Gotsis, and DeMarcus Walker on their defensive line at defensive end. Wolfe is the best of the group, while the other three are solid as well. Walker will need to show that he has what it takes to play defensive end, after spending a year out of position at linebacker in 2017.
The Broncos also have DeShawn Williams, Clinton McDonald, and Caushaud Lyons, all of whom are trying to do their best to make the team’s final 53-man roster, which will be determined after the final preseason game.
