Shane Ray or Shaq Barrett, OLB

The Broncos have two edge defenders in contract years in Shane Ray and Shaquil Barrett.

The team likes both players, as Ray worked almost exclusively with the team’s number one defense through training camp before being named essentially the number three rusher behind Von Miller and Bradley Chubb on the depth chart.

That doesn’t mean either player is going to be phased out of the defensive gameplan, though.

The Broncos will use all of these weapons and will need an offer they can’t refuse to get them off the team via trade.

If the Broncos determine that they will be unable to re-sign one of these two guys at season’s end (and they should absolutely try and re-sign one), it makes sense to get some value now before it’s too late.

Otherwise, the best the Broncos will be able to do is a third-round compensatory pick in the 2020 NFL Draft if one or both of these guys get a big money deal from some team this offseason.

There are plenty of teams that would love to have an edge player the caliber of Ray or Barrett, and it just so happens that the Broncos have enviable depth ahead of and behind them on the depth chart.
