Matt Moore, QB
After watching Paxton Lynch struggle in the 2017 preseason and regular season, then again in the 2018 preseason debut against the Vikings, it would shock no one if the Broncos decided to bring in a veteran for some stability.
Chad Kelly appears to be winning the backup competition for now, and while Lynch still has some time to right the ship and inspire confidence, the fact that the team made the move they did based on each player’s entire body of work over the offseason is a major statement.
It doesn’t feel like there’s really any recovering from this kind of demotion, especially after losing the starting job to Trevor Siemian last year and not gaining any trust from the coaching staff.
The team has a decision to make with Lynch and his future and unfortunately for the former first-round pick out of Memphis, that time appears to be closing in on its end.
If the Broncos were presented with this season’s ‘worst case scenario’ and Case Keenum went down with an injury on the first snap of the first game, would they be comfortable trying to compete with either Chad Kelly or Paxton Lynch at this point?
I think before they would turn to Kelly or Lynch, the Broncos would want someone who has played some games and could help them salvage the season.
I don’t know that Kelly has inspired that kind of confidence yet, despite playing well in the team’s scrimmage and preseason opener.
Moore is a viable option for the team.
