Paxton Lynch’s status on the Denver Broncos could be in jeopardy going forward. Which teams could be interested in Lynch if he becomes available?

The Denver Broncos announced Monday that quarterback Chad Kelly would take second-team reps in practice this week. Paxton Lynch was demoted to the third-team offense.

Lynch has been beaten for the second-string job each year he has been in the league: once by Brock Osweiler, and twice by Trevor Siemian. Both Osweiler and Siemian drafted lower than Lynch, Siemian being a late seventh-round pick.

With the Broncos probably going with two quarterbacks for the regular season, what teams could use Lynch? Despite Lynch’s failures while in the league, there surely are some suitors as a backup.

Honestly, there is very little, if any, trade value for Lynch. He has not been good. I think the only chance he is on an NFL roster in 2018 is if an injury occurs to a team’s starting quarterback.

Here is a look at some teams that could use Lynch’s services if an injury to their starting quarterback occurred…

Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys have Dak Prescott installed as their starting quarterback. Behind him are three guys, and two of them are rookies. The team’s second-string quarterback, Cooper Rush, has completed 1-of-3 passes in his career, something Lynch has an advantage on.

Dallas used the fourth overall pick on running back Ezekiel Elliott. Later that day, they tried to trade back into the first round to get ahead of the Broncos. Their plan was to select Lynch. That prompted the Broncos to panic, therefore trading up to the 26th overall pick to select the quarterback they hoped would be the future of this franchise: Paxton Lynch.

It wouldn’t surprise me, given their current backup situation. It would, however, surprise me since they passed on him in 2016. If the Cowboys do go after him, it may end up being the better situation for Lynch in the end.
