Denver Broncos: Players who stood out against Minnesota
By Cody Roark
Chad Kelly – QB
The media and Twittersphere were going crazy for Chad Kelly. The second-year player who hadn’t played in a single NFL game due to injuries last season finally got his chance to play.
Despite playing with the third offensive line and players deeper on the depth chart, Kelly looked visually more decisive and confident than Broncos backup quarterback Paxton Lynch.
Lynch started the first series of the third quarter and underwhelmed. Kelly would go in the next series and orchestrate momentum for the Broncos comeback as he connected with Matt LaCosse for a wide open touchdown.
Kelly’s poise in the pocket and the nature of how decisive he was was quick. He finished 14-of-21 passing for 177 yards, two touchdowns, (LaCosse and Lindsay) and tied for a team-high in rushing with Royce Freeman at 38 yards.
He played well enough, in my opinion, to receive reps this week with the Broncos second unit. Will we see Kelly this week with the two’s?
“We’ll see,” said Head Coach Vance Joseph.
