Colin Kaepernick

People are quick to forget that Kaepernick almost ended up in a Denver Broncos uniform for 2016.

He essentially nixed the trade by not agreeing to Elway’s proposed pay cut. After an up and down 2016 where Kaepernick caused quite a stir nationally, he declined his player option with San Francisco and made himself a free agent.

For one reason or another, he has yet to be signed to an NFL roster. After sitting out all of 2017, it’s clear that the old boys club is not willing to risk the upside of Kaepernick to potentially alienating a fan base.

Many players believe that he is being blackballed by the NFL.

Although Kaepernick isn’t a perfect quarterback by any means, the fact that Christian Hackenberg is still in the league and he is not is quite the indication of the above. In Kaepernick’s last season with the 49ers, he posted respectable statistics for a mid-level starter.

He completed 59.2% of his passes for 2,241 yards, 16 touchdowns, and only four interceptions.

The beauty of this is that picking up Kaepernick wouldn’t require providing an asset in return. Unfortunately, I don’t see Elway going down this path anytime in the near future.
