After losing Jamal Carter for the year, the Denver Broncos went into the free agency pool and signed former Indianapolis Colts safety Shamarko Thomas.
With Jamal Carter gone for the year with a torn hamstring that needs surgery, there is now an open spot on the Denver Broncos depth chart. The team wasted no time by filling that spot hours after the reports came out. The Broncos decided to go the veteran route and sign Shamarko Thomas.
Thomas is a former Indianapolis Colts safety. NFL fans may recall his helmet to helmet hit that resulted in the first ejection under the new helmet rules. Just a couple days after the incident, the Indianapolis Colts decided to part ways with him.

Shamarko Thomas is a former Syracuse Orange player. He was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers back in the fourth round of the 2013 NFL Draft. His first two seasons were promising, recording 29 tackles in his rookie campaign while recording five tackles and forcing a fumble in the eleven games he played his sophomore season.
From there is where things went downhill. He found himself on the bottom of the depth charts and was ultimately let go in free agency after the 2016 season. From there he would end up on three different teams in a span of 13 months. Denver is the fourth team he will be with in the last 15 months.
For the Denver Broncos, the move makes sense. Having another veteran presence in the secondary will help push some of the younger guys. It is uncertain if Shamarko Thomas will end up on the 53-man roster, but being a veteran gives him a bit of an edge. Now the question is if he can do well with the Denver Broncos playbook.
The Broncos will likely place Jamal Carter on injured reserve to make room for Shamarko Thomas.
