Chad Kelly, QB

Despite some mixed reviews at training camp, one of the players I’m most excited to watch in the Broncos’ first preseason game is backup quarterback Chad Kelly.

Kelly debuted on the team’s depth chart as the third quarterback but he has a chance in preseason action to take that spot from Paxton Lynch.

Whether or not the Broncos decide to continue on with this duo behind Case Keenum at the position remains to be seen, but Kelly is a gamer and proved as much in the team’s scrimmage at training camp, throwing two really nice touchdown passes.

If Kelly can come out against the Vikings and prove his effectiveness in the offense against a live defense, it could inspire some confidence in the Broncos’ coaching staff and perhaps convince the team to move on from Paxton Lynch.

Likewise, if Lynch outshines Kelly, the Broncos may go into the season with just two quarterbacks on the roster.

This is the start of the evaluation process as far as game action and both players will get a lot of reps.
