Denver Broncos rookie undrafted wide receiver John Diarse is getting a chance to shine with the top offense, and rightfully so…
When the Denver Broncos make final cuts and bring the roster down to 53 players, they are going to have an extremely tough time deciding which five or six wide receivers to keep.
Just based on training camp, the wide receiver group as a whole has stolen the show. One player who has been consistently making plays is undrafted free agent rookie John Diarse, joining a stellar rookie class at receiver which also includes second-round pick Courtland Sutton and fourth-round pick DaeSean Hamilton.
Diarse spent the first two years of his college career at LSU before transferring to TCU, where he put up pretty modest numbers compared to the guys the Broncos drafted.
He was second on the team (by one yard) with 575 receiving yards but did enough to catch the attention of pro scouts.
Apparently, the TCU passing game is not what it was with Andy Dalton throwing passes, or Josh Doctson catching them.
Diarse was one of a very select group of Broncos undrafted free agent signings after the 2018 NFL Draft and joined one of the deepest position groups on the team.
Facing long odds of making the team in general, Diarse has done nothing but make plays since he got to Denver.
When I was watching his TCU games, I couldn’t help but be reminded of former Florida State receiver and longtime NFL playmaker Anquan Boldin, at least in the simplest of ways.
Diarse and Boldin are eerily similar in their build, athletic scores, and body types.
In training camp so far, Diarse might have shown some of the best hands on the team as well.
In the two practices I attended (day four and five), Diarse didn’t drop a single pass. He also took a couple of punts and caught those with ease as well.
He’s continued making plays at camp and is really starting to turn heads. He’s even gotten some work with the Broncos’ number one offense.
He’s not the fastest guy the Broncos have at the position, but he finds ways to get open and has deceptively long arms to create a big catch radius.
He’s going to be a player in focus as the Broncos take the field Saturday night against the Vikings.
